Myriam Suter
a painter artist road of more than 30 years
and so many exhibits
1979 – 1990
From decades and until the end of the eighties, Porcelain painting was linked to big classics like « Nyon », « Meissen », « Strasbourg » etc… This contributes to maintain the public in a frozen imagery where flowers and bouquets, sometimes one or two fruits or some landscapes, are the stars of this art, even today. Very little audacity : rare are the painters who try others styles.
Having discovered this art at the age of 10 years, Myriam is inhabited by the desire to paint : she takes classes with enthusiasm. During one year, she paints cornflowers and other simple flowers. She grumbles a bit in these classical decors where she really does not bloom. Alone at home, she tries to paint new decors, sometimes clumsily for lack of technical knowledge. She loses heart a bit during years 85 - 87, then decides to take back classes.
1991-1993
Italy opens the ball of renewal. This country which was always very artistic, launches into more audacious decors, with Porcelain painters coming from the whole world. New techniques appear, and some of ancient ones, forgotten, reappear.
This discovery fills Myriam with enthusiasm : she is going to travel during some years to learn - from several grand masters came to Italy - other techniques still unknown in Switzerland.
1994
A “tsunami” attains Switzerland, the Porcelain painting knows a revolutionary bang. Dozens of new techniques come to enrich and rejuvenate this art, which becomes resolutely modern. International competitions are organised in Italy, followed by Switzerland and other countries some years later ; the happy years of Porcelain painting begin.
Supported and encouraged by her peers, Myriam opens her first 20m2 studio in Plan-les Ouates - that she calls "Atelier CéramiS" - and welcomes her 3 firsts students there.
1995-1999
A wind of modernity blows with the arrival of passionate young students. Splendid decors appear, delighting the world with new ideas, colours and techniques. The demand is very strong. Courses and seminars are besieged. Dozens of exhibitions and international conventions are setting up. A lot of courses open everywhere, sometimes given behind closed doors by on-the-job trained people.
In 1996, Myriam wins the prize of the portrait
, in Como (Italia). This recognition brings her very fast towards the high summits and she sees her name appearing among the best Porcelain painters in Switzerland. While giving lessons to more and more students, Myriam continues advancing and developing new techinques in a self-taught way. In 1997, she draws from Porcelain her first necklaces, which she models, glazes and decorates from A to Z. Success is immediate, and launches the trend of jewellery modeling in the world of Porcelain painters. Admitted as one of the best wildlife painters in Switzerland, Myriam refuses to be categorised and follows her researches to perfect new personal techniques. Her first creations are emerging at the beginning of the 21th century.
2000-2004
Some happy years more, then new techniques get breathless, students bulimia for novelties is not fed anymore, and the number of registerings goes down. Actually, they don’t understand that they can now reap profit from the last decade’s discoveries and technical innovations to make original works.
In June 2000, the CéramiS Studio, with more than 30 students, moves to Onex. Enriched by her technical discoveries and by 20 years of experience, Myriam takes advantage of all that she have seen and acquired during previous years. She starts offering high quality training courses, in which students learn new techniques by accomplishing one or another of her creations. In 2002, during a competition on Childhoods topic, opened to artists of any types (watercolour, oil, sculpture, photo etc), Myriam wins the first prize of jury . That launches this art undervalued in the center stage.
2003-2006
Despite of the crisis, the Porcelain painting didn’t say its last word and continues purposing more and more beautiful pieces. Switzerland has become a reference in the matter, and especially Geneva, where the biggest number of studios is counted.
Myriam’s inspiration is borderless; she remains combative and continues creating and searching tirelessly for new declensions of her art. She works for a harmonious style, where the union of colours and techniques, linked to forms and to Porcelain’s beauty, remains her main preoccupation. From 2003, she is also teaching glass painting.
